Health Integrations
Health Integrations is where you connect Apple Health (and see what’s coming for Garmin, Withings, Oura, and more). Buddy stays the coach — Apple Health stays the hub. You own the data.
Apple Health Connect and Sync now run in the kcal iOS app (TestFlight). Safari cannot talk to HealthKit. After Connect, tap Sync now for the last 14 days.
On iPhone, open Connected Health / Health Sources, tap Connect on Apple Health, grant HealthKit, then Sync now.
Why this matters
One place for health sources beats hunting through Menu and Connected Health separately.
Every permission explains why Buddy wants it — no blind “Allow all”.
Disconnect anytime. Sync now pulls HealthKit samples into Buddy — it does not happen from Safari.
Coming-soon cards (Garmin, Withings, WHOOP, Fitbit, Health Connect) stay Later until those bridges ship.
What to understand
What you will see.
- 1
Settings → Health Integrations — open the page
- 2
Apple Health card — Connect when you are ready
- 3
Permission list — Weight, Sleep, Heart Rate, and more, each with a short why
- 4
Connected dashboard — status, permissions granted, data sources (foundation)
- 5
Coming soon — Garmin, Withings, Oura, Strava, Fitbit, Android Health Connect
- 6
Buddy placeholders — sleep / recovery / heart trends (not coaching yet)
Truth: Connect and Sync now need the kcal iOS app. Safari / Mac cannot read HealthKit.
Truth: You can review the screens on beta web. Real Apple Health / HealthKit needs an iPhone.
How to do this in real life
How to set it up (beta).
- 1
Update to the latest beta (web hard-refresh, or newest TestFlight).
- 2
Open Menu → Connected Health (Health Sources).
- 3
On iPhone TestFlight, tap Connect on Apple Health and grant HealthKit.
- 4
Tap Sync now for the last 14 days (weight, sleep, workouts, steps, heart, active kcal).
- 5
Return to Home and keep logging meals — Health Integrations supports Buddy; it does not replace Foodiary.
Buddy will coach from health context in later phases. Today, honest logging still teaches the most.
Where to find it
Path: Menu → Settings → Health Integrations → Open Health Integrations.
Direct path on your invite URL: …/#/u/YOUR_KEY/health-integrations (same page).
Permissions Buddy may ask for
Weight, body fat, lean mass, steps, walking distance, heart rate, resting heart rate, HRV, sleep, workouts, active energy, exercise minutes, VO2 max, hydration, nutrition, blood pressure, blood oxygen.
You choose which ones to grant. We do not request “everything” silently.
Privacy
Health data never leaves the device without your explicit consent.
Phase 1 foundation connection is local. No dark patterns — disconnect anytime.
Existing Connected Health (Oura / Google / Strava OAuth) remains available under Connected Health for live cloud sources.
What testers should report
Can you open Settings → Health Integrations on iPhone TestFlight?
Does Connect show the why-list before confirming?
Does Connected / Disconnect feel clear?
Anything confusing in the Coming soon cards?
Common mistakes
-
“I connected Apple Health and expected sleep coaching the same day.”
Coaching and auto-sync are later phases. This release ships the foundation screen.
-
“I skipped the why text and allowed everything.”
Read the reasons. Granular choice is the point.
Connect when you are ready. Your Foodiary habit still comes first — Health Integrations will meet you there.
