Authentication
Authentication protects your health data: welcome, device pairing, PIN, trusted devices, and recovery. Security should feel calm — not like a quiz you fear failing.
Store recovery information where only you can find it. A trusted device plus a remembered PIN covers most days.
Confirm you know how you sign in on this device and where your recovery path lives — update it if fuzzy.
Why this matters
Food, weight, and training data are personal. Sessions, device trust, and PIN exist so casual access stays hard while daily use stays smooth.
Most auth pain is forgotten PINs, new phones, or skipped recovery setup. Fix those once; logging stays uninterrupted.
Invitation-only beta means access is intentional. Follow onboarding prompts rather than inventing workarounds that weaken trust.
What to understand
Auth building blocks.
- 1
Welcome / onboarding entry
- 2
Device pairing for your account access
- 3
PIN for quick local protection
- 4
Trusted devices for smoother return visits
- 5
Recovery paths when a device is lost
Truth: It costs a crisis later. Set recovery while calm.
Truth: Prefer separate access patterns. Shared PINs blur responsibility and safety.
How to do this in real life
Treat auth like brushing teeth — brief, regular, non-dramatic.
- 1
Complete onboarding prompts without rushing past recovery
- 2
Set a PIN you can recall under travel stress
- 3
Mark this phone as trusted if offered and it’s yours alone
- 4
When you get a new device, pair deliberately; revoke the old one if needed
- 5
If locked out, use official recovery — avoid unofficial “reset” folklore
- 6
Email hello@kcal.lol only after you’ve tried the in-app recovery path
Auth keeps Buddy’s diary yours. The product assumes privacy is part of coaching trust — not an afterthought.
New phone checklist
Install → sign in / pair → confirm PIN → verify a recent Foodiary day syncs → revoke trust on the old device if it’s leaving your control.
- 1
Do not factory-reset the old phone until the new one shows your data
- 2
Keep recovery material handy during the switch
Shared households
Use Spaces for collaboration. Don’t turn one login into a household account — ground truth gets muddy and security weakens.
Common mistakes
-
“I wrote my PIN in a photo album titled Passwords.”
Too easy to leak. Use a proper password manager or offline sealed note.
-
“I ignored recovery because onboarding felt long.”
Recovery is the parachute. Five minutes now prevents a bad week later.
-
“I keep reinstalling to “fix” login issues.”
Reinstalls without recovery planning can strand you. Follow Troubleshooting and auth prompts.
Secure enough to protect you, simple enough that you still open Home tomorrow — that’s the auth goal. Set it once, then go log lunch.
