Camera
A photo is often faster than typing. Capture or pick from gallery, review what Buddy recognises, confirm the portion, and save to the diary.
Shoot from above with decent light; include the whole plate. Mention hidden oils on confirm if the photo can’t show them.
Log one meal with camera or gallery from Home and confirm the portion before save.
Why this matters
Complex plates are hard to type. A picture gives Buddy something concrete to estimate while you keep eating or parenting or commuting.
Camera logging still requires human judgment. Recognition can miss sauces, oils, drinks beside the plate, or second helpings. Your confirmation protects honesty.
Gallery helps when you forgot to log in the moment but still have a photo — better than reconstructing from memory alone.
Mixed plates (buffets, shared tapas) need your portion story on confirm. The camera sees the table; you know your share.
What to understand
Camera flow essentials.
- 1
Use camera or gallery quick action on Home
- 2
Review recognised items and estimates
- 3
Adjust portions and missing fats/drinks
- 4
Save into Foodiary via Buddy
- 5
Edit later in Foodiary if you learn more
Truth: Vision estimates help; portions and hidden fats still need you.
Truth: Clear plates produce better suggestions. Retake when you can.
How to do this in real life
Make photo logging a tidy habit.
- 1
Frame the full meal; avoid extreme close-ups of one corner
- 2
Capture before you destroy the evidence (half-eaten chaos is harder)
- 3
Add voice or text notes for oil, butter, dressings, beverages
- 4
Confirm Buddy’s suggestion; scale portions up/down
- 5
Save; don’t double-log the same plate in Foodiary manually
Buddy uses recognition to draft the diary row quickly. You remain editor-in-chief at confirm.
Labels and receipts
Packaged foods and receipts can be clearer than plated meals. When Buddy reads a label, still check serving size versus what you ate.
Privacy and sharing
Avoid photographing other people’s faces or documents. Meal photos are for your coaching loop.
When to prefer another mode
Dark restaurants and tiny labels frustrate vision. Switch to voice: name the dish and a fair portion. The goal is a saved honest row, not a perfect photo.
Common mistakes
-
“I photographed the salad and ignored the dressing boat.”
Dressing may dominate energy. Log it explicitly.
-
“I snapped after finishing and Buddy saw an empty plate.”
Capture before or describe leftovers. Empty crockery teaches little.
-
“Recognition was wrong so I logged nothing.”
Edit the draft or switch to voice/text. The meal still counts.
Point, shoot, confirm, done. Camera logging exists to keep real life inside the diary — not to pass a photography exam.
