Foodiary
Foodiary is the day book — the ledger Progress reads. Buddy is the smart door in; Foodiary is where you review and fix.
Prefer Home for new meals. Open Foodiary when you need to edit grams, time, or fill a known manual entry.
Open today’s Foodiary after logging on Home; fix one portion you know was off.
Why this matters
Separation of jobs prevents frustration. If you use Foodiary as the only capture tool, you miss Buddy’s estimates and teaching. If you never open Foodiary, small errors compound.
Progress trusts the diary. Blank-kcal rows, wrong days, and duplicate meals all show up as confusing trends. Clean books make calm coaching.
Manual rows are valid when you already know numbers (labels, weighed meals). They are not the fastest path for messy real plates — that’s Buddy.
Evening skims also catch double-logs from retrying voice or camera. One clean row beats three overlapping guesses.
What to understand
Foodiary responsibilities.
- 1
Review meals for the selected day
- 2
Edit grams, items, and time
- 3
Catch missing snacks and oils
- 4
Avoid blank-kcal rows when you care about Progress
- 5
Navigate days carefully — yesterday’s edit won’t fix today’s Progress
Truth: Same ledger. Buddy writes smartly; Foodiary lets you proofread.
Truth: Skim and fix. Near-meal Home logs already did the hard work.
How to do this in real life
Use a two-minute evening skim.
- 1
Confirm the selected date is correct
- 2
Scan for missing meals or drinks
- 3
Edit obvious portion errors
- 4
Delete true duplicates; keep honest snacks
- 5
Leave deep analysis for weekly Progress review
Entries created via Buddy already carry estimates you can refine. Foodiary is the correction surface that keeps ground truth trustworthy.
Wrong day problems
Late-night logs can land on the wrong calendar day depending on timing. If Progress looks empty, check Foodiary’s selected day before reporting a bug.
Manual entry etiquette
When you type manual rows, include energy and protein if you have them. A name-only row is a sticky note, not nutrition data.
Buddy vs Foodiary in one line
Buddy captures with intelligence. Foodiary proofreads. Progress believes the ledger. Use each door for its job and the week stays calm.
Common mistakes
-
“I created empty rows as placeholders and forgot them.”
Placeholders confuse Progress. Log real estimates or delete empties.
-
“I edited yesterday while viewing today’s Progress.”
Day mismatch. Align the diary day with the Progress day you’re judging.
-
“I never correct Buddy even when I weighed the food.”
Corrections teach better future estimates and keep the ledger honest.
Think librarian, not courtroom. Keep the day book tidy enough to learn from — perfection optional, honesty required.
