Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates fuel training, daily movement, and brain work. They also influence hunger, gym performance, and day-to-day scale weight through glycogen and water — which is why carb fear creates so much confusion.

💬 Buddy Tip

Place most carbs around the meals and workouts where you need energy — and keep fibre-rich sources as the default.

🎯 Today's Mission

Choose one carb source you enjoy (oats, potatoes, rice, fruit, bread you actually like) and portion it on purpose at one meal.

WHY?

Why this matters

Carbs are not villains. In a calorie-controlled, protein-adequate pattern, carb amount is a tool for performance and preference. Demonising them often leads to rebound eating of the exact foods you banned.

Higher-carb days can raise scale weight via glycogen and water even when fat is unchanged. Knowing that protects you from panic after pasta night.

Carb quality still matters for satiety and health patterns: fibre-containing carbs usually help more than sugar-sweetened drinks for the same energy.

WHAT?

What to understand

Use carbs with intention.

  1. 1

Match carb intake to activity: harder training days often deserve more fuel

  2. 2

Prefer potatoes, oats, whole grains, fruit, and legumes when they fit your culture and taste

  3. 3

Liquid sugar is easy to over-drink and under-log

  4. 4

Low-carb can work for some; it is not mandatory for fat loss

  5. 5

Evening carbs are not automatically stored as fat — totals and weekly balance matter more

Myth
Eating carbs after 6pm prevents fat loss.

Truth: Timing myths distract from energy balance, protein, and sleep. Choose a schedule you can keep.

Myth
Fruit is sugar, so skip it.

Truth: Fruit brings fibre and micronutrients. Portions matter; fear is unnecessary for most people.

HOW?

How to do this in real life

Build a personal carb map for the week.

  1. 1

List your training days and assign slightly higher carb meals there

  2. 2

Keep a default carb side you can cook half-asleep

  3. 3

Log sauces and sweet drinks that hitchhike with “simple meals”

  4. 4

If weight jumps after a high-carb day, wait for the weekly trend before changing everything

  5. 5

If energy crashes on low carb, add a measured portion back and reassess

How Buddy helps

Foodiary captures carb-containing foods so Progress can show patterns across training weeks. Buddy coaching should protect fuel for hard days, not praise under-eating.

Performance

Hard sessions without carbs feel heroic once and stupid by week three. Fuel the work you ask your body to do.

If fat loss is the goal, create the deficit from the week’s average — not by starving every workout.

Cultural foods

Bread, rice, potatoes, and pasta are not moral categories. They are foods to portion inside your budget and fibre goals.

Sustainable plans keep cultural staples; they do not replace your cuisine with someone else’s grocery list.

❤️ Encouragement

Carbs are a dial, not a demon. Turn them to fit training and hunger — then let weekly Progress tell you if the dial is right.
